Eleni Coffinas is in charge of one of the Firm's Medical Malpractice departments. Highly regarded in the legal community for her expertise in this field, Ms. Coffinas has rewarded our clients with numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. Among her verdicts was a $61.66 million verdict for a baby who suffered brain damage as a result of oxygen deprivation during delivery, and a $31 million verdict, which is the largest verdict of its kind in New York, in a matter involving a failure to diagnose breast cancer. These results are but a few of her successes, which have garnered her the respect of the medical malpractice defense bar as a powerful advocate for her clients. As a leading authority in this area of law, Eleni is actively sought as a lecturer in medical malpractice issues and serves on numerous bar committees in this field. The judiciary in New York has recognized her abilities and has invited her to lecture them on issues related to her specialty. She has been named in New York magazine and Super Lawyers  magazine as one of the top lawyers in New York, and she has received the highest rating (AV®) from Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings.* Eleni has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Ms. Coffinas joined the Firm upon graduating from Brooklyn Law School in 1985 and has been a Member since 1993. She is on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and a Dean of its continuing legal education programs. Eleni actively participates in fundraising for cancer victims and campaigns to build awareness about early-detection and treatment of cancer.
