UFA Counsel Sullivan Papain Announces Settlement of
Sullivan Papain Block McGrath & Cannavo P.C., General Counsel to the Uniformed Firefighters Association and Co-Liaison Counsel for some 10,000 claimants involved in the 9/11 rescue and cleanup operations, has negotiated a settlement, worth between $575 Million to $657.5 Million. The settlement was reached with the City of New York and its contractors for claims brought by firefighters, police and other workers sickened by dust and contamination at the World Trade Center disaster site.

Ninety-five percent participation is required by all claimants for the settlement to become effective. If this condition is met, each case will then be evaluated individually.  A neutral administrator will review records to confirm the injury, its severity and claimant's World Trade Center service. The neutral will also consider other relevant factors such as whether claimant's injuries are disabling. The administrator will then make an award based upon the terms of the settlement.  Most participating claimants will also be issued cancer insurance coverage in the event that they develop respiratory or blood cancers over the next 15 years.

Sullivan Papain, which personally represents more than 600 firefighters, will be setting up meetings with its clients to provide detailed information on the settlement.
