As reported in the New York Daily News, an advertising worker was crushed to death in Manhattan Wednesday when she stepped into an elevator that suddenly shot up to the second floor before the doors closed.
According to sources, Suzanne Hart, 41, of Young & Rubicam became wedged between the elevator and the shaft wall at the firm’s 285 Madison Avenue office building.
Witnesses inside the elevator watched in horror as Hart died, describing her as being “mangled up really bad.”
The accident occurred at the 25-story building which is home to Young and Rubicam and several other advertising agencies.
Hart, who grew up in California, attended Palos Verdes High School and graduated from Knox College in Illinois, was listed on the LinkedIn networking site as Young & Rubicam ‘s director of new business content.
The Daily News reports that records show 56 violations of the city’s building code involving some of the building's 13 elevators, dating back to 2001. The last citation occurred in 2009, and all of the complaints are listed as resolved by the city Buildings Department.
