Sullivan Papain Secures $2.5 Million Settlement for Woman Injured at UBS Arena

Sullivan Papain Block McManus Coffinas & Cannavo P.C. is pleased to announce a $2.5 million settlement secured by attorney Michael P. Napolitano on behalf of a 70-year-old woman who sustained serious injuries while attending an event at UBS Arena.

In January 2023, the client was exiting the arena after enjoying a Disney on Ice performance with her grandchildren when she tripped over an uneven decorative floor mat. The mat had been improperly placed over thick rubber mats used by performers exiting the ice in skates, creating a hazardous walking surface for attendees.

As a result of the fall, the client suffered a severe hip fracture and was immediately taken to the hospital, where she underwent surgery involving the placement of hardware. Despite initial treatment, ongoing complications required her to undergo a total hip replacement nearly a year later.

The case was resolved for $2.5 million prior to trial, providing meaningful compensation for the pain, suffering, and long-term limitations the client now faces. Beyond the financial result, the case also led to important safety changes at UBS Arena. Modifications were made to how rubber mats are placed during events like Disney on Ice, helping to prevent future incidents and protect the safety of arena guests.
