Sullivan Papain Secures Over $1.1 Million for 9/11-Related Cancer

Sullivan Papain’s Jacqueline Lasker successfully obtained a $1,143,809.20 award through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund on behalf of the family of a volunteer firefighter who lost his life to a 9/11-related cancer.

In the aftermath of the attacks, the decedent, then a volunteer firefighter from New Jersey, traveled to New York to assist in the response and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. He worked tirelessly for several days amid toxic air, debris, and hazardous dust.

Years later, he was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer linked to environmental exposure. Despite treatment, he passed away at just 56 years old, less than a year after his diagnosis.

Ms. Lasker represented the family and secured an award that provides critical financial support and honors the decedent’s courage and sacrifice.

Sullivan Papain is proud to stand with the families of volunteer firefighters, first responders, and survivors whose health and lives were forever changed by their efforts on and after September 11th.
