VCF Award Secured for 9/11 Office Worker Diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer
Sullivan Papain’s Ina Pecani secured a $1,945,425.87 award through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) on behalf of the family of an office worker who tragically lost his life to a 9/11-related illness.
After the September 11th attacks, the decedent continued reporting to work every day in lower Manhattan. Like many dedicated professionals determined to keep the city running, he unknowingly exposed himself to toxic dust and debris for months. Over time, this daily exposure caused serious health consequences. He was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, which metastasized to his bones, and passed away less than a year later at just 51 years old.
Ina Pecani represented the decedent’s family in their claim before the VCF, securing compensation that recognized both the decedent’s suffering and his family’s loss.
This case highlights the ongoing impact of 9/11 exposure on downtown workers who returned to their offices shortly after the attacks. Sullivan Papain remains steadfast in its mission to represent survivors and families affected by 9/11-related illnesses, ensuring they receive the justice and financial support they deserve.
