A Baldor food delivery truck struck and killed a cyclist and a pedestrian in the Upper East Side on Friday, December 24th, 2021. The New York Police Department is currently investigating the fatal accident.
The truck driver, a 66-year-old man, picked up a 32-year-old passenger on East 61 Street around 9:20 am. He then abruptly accelerated the delivery truck, causing the truck to hit the curb, damaging a fire hydrant and colliding with a cyclist on the street and a pedestrian walking on a sidewalk.
According to police, the delivery driver made a right turn on 3rd Avenue, where he stopped following the collision.
Taurino Rosendo Morales, a 37-year-old cyclist, and Delfino Eduardo Maceda, a 47-year-old pedestrian, were both brought to nearby hospitals, where they were declared dead. The delivery driver’s passenger was also brought to a local hospital, only sustaining minor injuries. The driver remained at the scene, where police began the open investigation.
Stated in Transportation Alternatives Press Release, the Baldor food delivery truck involved in this accident has received 270 parking tickets since 2019, and this was its second fatal accident in the Upper East Side in only two weeks.
