Video Game Addiction (“VGA”)

Overview of the Claims

Video Game Addiction (VGA) is recognized by leading medical authorities as a legitimate mental health condition. The World Health Organization classifies it under the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as “Gaming Disorder,” while the American Psychiatric Association identifies it in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) as “Internet Gaming Disorder.” According to the Cleveland Clinic, VGA is marked by a significant loss of control over gaming behavior, where gaming takes precedence over essential life activities and continues despite negative consequences.

Common symptoms include impaired cognitive function (such as distorted time perception and poor decision-making), emotional instability (including anger, anxiety, and depression), social withdrawal, declining academic or workplace performance, and disinterest in other activities. VGA frequently results in compulsive play, sleep deprivation, and other harmful mental, emotional, and physical consequences.
