Eleni Coffinas Secures $2,500,000 Settlement for Plaintiff’s Delayed Breast Cancer Diagnosis

On April 7, 2021, SPBMCC Partner and top medical malpractice attorney Eleni Coffinas obtained a $2.5 million settlement on behalf of a woman who received a delayed diagnosis of stage four breast cancer.
Misinterpretation of Mammogram Leads to Delayed Diagnosis
The plaintiff, a 60-year-old woman with two adult sons, went for her annual mammogram screening in September 2016. The radiologist misinterpreted the screening results and did not order any additional tests, such as a biopsy, following the scan. When the plaintiff returned for her annual screening in October 2017, the medical professionals overseeing her scan diagnosed her with stage four breast cancer. Unfortunately, due to the failure to diagnose in a proper and timely manner, the cancer had metastasized beyond the breast. The plaintiff will continue chemotherapy for the rest of her life, as surgery was no longer an option after her diagnosis.
