On March 7, 2024, SPBMCC Partner Glenn W. Nick secured a $500,000 settlement for a man who sustained severe injuries when he slipped and fell on ice while exiting from a private home.

61-Year-Old Man Sustains Serious Injuries Following Slip and Fall

On Feb. 13, 2021, our client was walking on the front steps of a private home in Queens, New York, when he slipped and fell on ice while exiting on the home’s front walk. The exit of the house contained several steps that violated various codes.

He was driven to North Shore University Hospital for immediate care and later treated with a private orthopedist. As a result of his fall, our client ruptured his quadricep, which had to be surgically repaired later that month.  He also suffered injuries to both of his knees, which required extensive physical therapy.

Our office, through the retention of a safety expert, was able to show that the steps were improperly constructed and maintained and, thus, created a dangerous slip-and-trip hazard.

Following discovery, and while this matter was pending on the trial calendar in New York State Supreme Court, Queens County, the parties reached this favorable resolution for our client.
