SPBMCC Partner Eleni Coffinas Obtains $1.425 Million Settlement in Medical Malpractice Case
March 8, 2020 in Medical Malpractice
SPBMCC Partner Eleni Coffinas recovered a $1,425,000 settlement in medical malpractice case where the plaintiff’s breast cancer worsened due to the negligence of her obstetrician-gynecologist.
Plaintiff Suffers Worsening Breast Cancer Diagnosis After Her Doctor Fails to Issue a Referral and a Sonogram That Was Performed Was Misinterpreted
The plaintiff presented to her obstetrician-gynecologist with a complaint regarding a lump in her breast. The doctor denied that, and her note did not reflect that any complaint was made. The sonogram was interpreted by the radiologist as negative when, in fact, it showed potentially suspicious signs of breast cancer that required a follow-up. Due to the negligence of the radiologist and the obstetrician-gynecologist, who denied even knowing about the lump, the plaintiff’s breast cancer diagnosis was delayed and she was deprived of the benefits of an earlier diagnosis.
“Due to the negligence of my client’s doctor, her breast cancer grew worse as a result,” Ms. Coffinas stated regarding the case, “her worsening condition could have been prevented had she received proper treatment from her OB/GYN.”
