Sullivan Papain Partner Cannavo and Associate Turkovic Obtain $1.2 Million in Delayed Diagnosis Case

On Nov. 28, 2022, Sullivan Papain Partner Vito Cannavo and Associate Ana Turkovic successfully obtained a $1.2 million settlement on behalf of a 39-year-old woman who lost function in her left kidney following a failure to diagnose and treat a ureter injury.

39-Year-Old Woman Suffers Delayed Diagnosis

The plaintiff was a healthy 39-year-old mother of two who suffered from surgical complications following a cesarean/hysterectomy. Due to injured ureters, she developed kidney failure and vascular disease. 

Failure to Treat

The defendant’s failure to diagnose and treat the plaintiff’s ureter injury resulted in the loss of function in her left kidney.

The plaintiff sought legal representation through the medical malpractice unit at Sullivan Papain. The prosecution and defense reached a total settlement of $1.2  million during the trial in the Supreme Court, Richmond County. The settlement compensates the plaintiff for the advancement in stage, pain, suffering, and additional treatment needed due to the delayed diagnosis.
