From being the chief trial counsel for the plaintiffs in the Agent Orange class action lawsuit to representing over 2 million Vietnam veterans in their claims against seven chemical companies, David J. Dean, Esq. has been trusted with numerous high-profile cases to obtain significant settlements in the plaintiffs’ favor. Read on for more details about several of his multi-million dollar wins.
A $92 million judgment against the City of New York for using excessive police force
This judgment was made against the City of New York in favor of our client, a 17-year-old boy who was shot by a police officer, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. This was a re-trial of a case that had resulted in a jury verdict of $41 Million. The policeman alleged that our client pointed his gun at the officer and was about to shoot him, but the young man claimed that he had already dropped his gun and was on his knees. The jury unanimously held that the policeman’s shooting of the plaintiff was not legally justified.
A $28.5 million verdict for a woman who sustained a severe leg injury after getting struck by a New York City Transit Authority train
The New York City Transit Authority was found liable in a jury trial after our client was struck in the head by a departing train as she bent down beside the train to retrieve something that she had dropped on the platform. Her left leg became wedged between the platform and the train, resulting in her being dragged 40 feet on the subway platform.
A $25.1 million verdict for a laborer injured at a worksite
In favor of our client, a laborer, and against the building owner and contractors involved in a construction project. Our client was in the process of assisting in the dismantling of a scaffold when the scaffold began to collapse causing him to jump and suffer serious head injuries. David J. Dean, Esq. proved that our client was supplied with an unsafe scaffold and that he was improperly instructed as to how to dismantle it.
$24 million for a man who tripped causing him to become a paraplegic
Our client sustained a spinal fracture and permanent paralysis after tripping on the threshold at the entryway of his rental home and falling nine feet down a stairwell. Although the man was intoxicated at the time of the fall, David J. Dean successfully argued that the landlord was liable because the condition of the entryway presented a known hazard.
