SPBMCC Partner Eleni Coffinas Obtains $3 Million Settlement in Medical Malpractice Case

March 9, 2020 in

SPBMCC Partner Eleni Coffinas recently recovered a $3,000,000 settlement in a medical malpractice case involving a young wife and mother who lost her life after doctors failed to follow proper protocol for the high risk that she would develop a blood clot.

Wife and Mother Dies After She Was Discharged From Hospital, Despite Blood Clot Risk

A young wife and new mom died days after she gave birth to her first child because she was discharged from the hospital after going through a delivery with high-risk signs for a dangerous blood clot. Medical professionals in charge of her care conducted studies to ensure that she did not have blood clots before discharging her, but the studies were limited and incomplete. Unfortunately, the wife and mom was discharged at high risk to develop deadly blood clots. The woman’s husband, and Ms. Coffinas’s client, was handed his new baby and, days later, was handed the news that his wife had died.

“Because the Doctors did not pay better attention to the high-risk factors to develop a blood clot that they knew my client had, the baby will never know his mom,” Ms. Coffinas stated regarding the case.

As a result of the case, the defendant accepted to pay damages to Ms. Coffinas’s client, who accepted the settlement amount of $3 million.
