SPBMCC Partner Eleni Coffinas Recovers One Million Dollar Settlement in Medical Malpractice Suit

March 7, 2020 in

SPBMCC Partner Eleni Coffinas recently obtained a one-million-dollar settlement in a medical malpractice case. A 60-year-old woman died after the medical professionals in charge of her care failed to carry out treatment in a proper or timely manner.

Woman Dies After a Two-Hour Delay in her Transfer to Second Hospital

Ms. Coffinas’s client was a 60-year-old woman who presented to an emergency room where it was determined that she needed a cardiac procedure at another facility equipped to do it, which was across the street. There was a two-hour delay in her transfer across the street, and when she finally made it to the second hospital that had the means to conduct her procedure, she passed away before she could receive treatment.

Ms. Coffinas Recovered a One Million Dollar Settlement

The defendant paid damages of one million dollars to settle the lawsuit. Ms. Coffinas fought diligently for her client’s loved ones to receive justice for the tragic and preventable death of her client.

Ms. Coffinas said, “Mrs. H died as she arrived on the doorstep of the hospital across the street from where she was because the Doctors did not act quickly enough to safely transfer her when they realized that their own facility was not equipped to do the life-saving procedure she needed. This delay cost her her life.”
